Adopting healthier habits

How to adopt a healthy habit and keep it.

Hey lovely how are you? i hope you are fab and well and having a super fab week.
This week has been so amazing as we have my lovely hubby back with us. Yay..

He returned back from Australia on Monday, having been out there for a while to see his son, so I am feeling super happy and grateful to have him back with us. Yay.
Anyway, this week I want to talk about habits and I want to share with you some ways to adopt a habit and keep it, as this is something that many of us can struggle with. Have you had or have that problem too?

In fact this is something that I have spoken to a few of my clients about this week as the struggle can be real. So, if you are trying to adopt a healthier, cleaner eating regime, or you are wanting to exercise more, or juice more or drink more water but it’s not happening – then read on so you can find out how to adopt these habits more easily.
So, what actually are habits? Habits are the small decisions you make and actions you perform every day.
And the truth is taking on new positive habits will not only make you feel good but may also protect you from health problems and encourage you to live a healthier lifestyle. Woo hoo! Sounds fab- So how do you start doing this?!

1.Start small and build micro habits.
Yep start off with micro resolutions which is committing to a new resolution or behavior for 4 weeks only so it feels manageable and not over whelming. Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day. So, the best thing to do is to think small and consistent short-term changes as these can really help in habit formation. If your end goal is losing weight, sometimes making too many changes at once is over whelming, so starting off with one healthier habit, such as exercising/ moving daily and implementing it for 4 weeks makes the whole process so much easier. Yay.

2.Remove what doesn’t support you.
It is much easier to remove activities or trigger foods, drinks etc. that can steer you towards bad habits. So, if you are someone who tends to hit snooze every morning, try putting your alarm clock away from your arms reach – as this will trigger you to get out of bed to turn it off. This way you are already out of bed and you can begin your day. Yay. If you are a continual snacker or mood food eater, then remove all the junk out of your home and have snacks ( fruit, veggie sticks and nuts etc) that are going to give you energy and nourish your body on every level instead of munching on crisps and chocolates.

3.Establish a routine –
Have consistency with your new habits. Once you have decided what your new healthier habits are, such as drinking more water or moving more, think about what time of day you are going to do these and commit to them. Schedule your workouts, schedule when you will have drunk all your water by, schedule when you are going to do your batch cooking and juicing etc and stick to it. It’s all about consistency.

4.Review your progress- track your progress and celebrate your wins. This is so important. This will keep you motivate and inspired. Maybe think about journaling or using a habit tracker app to help support you in measuring your success. Woo hoo. I love journaling about my achievements. It gives me great satisfaction and pride writing about these things. By the way, if you do find yourself wandering off track from your new habits, it’s ok. Its at this point – remind yourself why you are investing time and effort into this new habit. A good way to do this is to leave post it notes around the home, or on your bathroom mirror, so you can be reminded of your why you are committing to this habit.

5.Work with a coach or get and accountability buddy- finding a support network around you encourages not only you to continue to form new healthier habits but motivates you to exceed them. Having a Coach or a buddy push and propels you. I love holding my clients accountable and seeing their amazing advances forward in their health and wellbeing.
