Looking after your mind

Just heard on the radio today that anti-anxiety/depression medication prescriptions have simply gone through the roof!

We are certainly living in uncertain times, which is why spending a few moments each day on your own mental wellbeing is so important right now. Especially if you are looking after others as well.

So what simple habits can we practise to help our minds?

Japanese researchers have shown that being around nature, (trees, green spaces) has a positive effect on people’s stress, anxiety, depression and anger levels.

If you are unable to get outside and be near nature, you can still give yourself an opportunity to down regulate your nervous system and simply relax.

Try to switch off your phone, TV and radio for 10 minutes twice a day to concentrate on the here and now.

A lovely way to connect back to yourself is to simply close your eyes and focus on the sound of your breathing.

Step away from ‘busy’ and practise moments of stillness from time to time. This will allow you to become an ‘observer’ of the world and reduces ‘overthinking.’Research shows that writing down your worries and concerns helps an overwhelmed brain cope. Keep a pen and notepad near to jot down any concerns or worries. (This habit works especially well if you struggle to sleep).

Lavender is the top aromatherapy scent for helping your mind to let go of it all. Spray some on your pillow, or dab some on your fingertips and give your temples a massage.

Exercise is a fabulous way to de stress and let the mind wander too – my favourite way to boost my happiness levels… try doing a workout dvd, or going outside for a walk or a run or an online class or PT session with me. Yay.🏋🏻‍♂️💃🏻🥊

Remember, like all things in life, this situation we find ourselves in will also pass.

There are not many certainties in life, but one certainty is that you only get one body to carry you through.

Look after it.

Look after yourself❤️
