Top tips for feeling positive through the Winter nights
Read self coaching book – Imagine & You Can

In the cold and dreary winter months, many of us find it hard to feel positive and happy. Davinia Gill, successful author of self-coaching book, Imagine & You Can shares her top tips from her book to help you feel fabulous from now on.

  • Read Imagine & You Can – so that you transform your life. Self-coach yourself to be more confident, happy, healthy and feel fabulous every day – even in Winter.
  • Positive thoughts and affirmations – create a list of affirmations and positive thoughts that you can say out aloud to yourself as soon as you wake up, to inspire you and lift your early morning mood. Be proactive and make yourself feel great on those dark winter mornings.
  • Remember your favourite quotes, ones that inspire you. Think Ghandi, Mother Teresa, Bill Gates, Mandela – all positive inspiring people. Have these written on post-it notes around the house, to make you smile.
  • Develop a gratitude journal to feel great.
  • Ask yourself good questions every morning to make you feel happy and positive Ask yourself good questions that will put you in the right frame of mind and make your day better and your relationships better with yourself and others. For instance, “what can I do today to make it a wonderful day?” or “What can I do today to make myself happy and others happy?”.
  • Visualise & Plan. Visualise what you want to happen today and then plan it. Think about the outcomes that you want and what you want to achieve, Set up your day and design it how you want it. Every person who has achieved great things used vision to create their outcomes. Know what you want and then take action to make it the way you want it.
  • Have role models and read positive words. Set aside 15 minutes every morning to allow time to read self development and self-help books. By reading and hearing the inspiring words of great authors you will be immersing yourself in wise and uplifting thoughts that will excite you and not hinder you. Choose books to read where you will be positively influenced by good role models. People such as Gandhi and Buddha have wise words to raise your spirits. There are numerous fabulous authors in the self help genre: Paul McKenna, Anthony Robbins, Louise Hay, Joe Vitale, and Wayne Dyer. Have breakfast with these authors and learn from their knowledge and wise words. Feed your mind with happiness, hope and excitement.
  • Recall only good things that people have said to you. Polluting your mind with unhelpful and negative comments will not serve you. Dismiss any harsh or negative comments now.
  • Surround yourself with positive people who are inspiring and uplifting.
  • Take care of your body. This means taking deep diaphramic breaths to help you feel more alive and full of energy. Drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated and energised, approximately 2-3 litres of water a day. Eat wisely and choose healthy foods.
  • Exercise to feel fantastic. Exercise produces endorphins which make you feel fabulous. It will also help you to reduce body fat and reduce stress.
  • Laugh daily. Studies have found that those with a positive attitude suffer less from conditions such as heart disease. Find something to laugh at every day, to give your feel-good hormones a boost.
  • Be kind to your mind. Only say good things to yourself to make yourself feel good.

What the experts say about my book

Bev James, MD, The Coaching Academy

“This is the most readable personal development book I’ve ever got my hands on (and I can guarantee there have been plenty) What I love about this book is that it makes you want to read it as soon as you pick it up. There are pages to write your exercise results in which make the whole experience more enjoyable.

Women will massively benefit from this book – it is aimed at young women, but women of any age will be able to increase their happiness and fulfilment by following its simple steps. For these reasons, this book will be available through The Coaching Academy.”

Fran Morris, Head of VI form, Adeyfield School, Hemel Hempstead

“Davinia’s book, “Imagine and you Can” has been a huge source of inspiration in our Sixth Form assemblies… of our Post 16 students. We don’t want them to be simply passive observers but active learners and participators. Each Form group has been given a chapter from the book to read and absorb, and then devise ways of presenting the ideas in an interesting and engaging framework to share with their peers. Motivation and self belief about their futures are the keys to success. These ideas have been harnessed by the students in dramatic presentations underlining the “I can” culture inherent in the Every Child Matters agenda.

Brilliant book. So simple yet so inspirational! “
