The secret to a healthy life
23/05/2011
I personal train and coach such a variety of women ranging from a 12 year old right up to more recently an 82 year old and it’s so fabulous. Having such a variety of people is just wonderful, but what I truly love is the uniqueness of us all, in particular the zest of one of my newest clients – my 82 year old. Hannah called me up because she wanted to strengthen her leg muscles... she proceeded to tell me on the phone that she thought she might have over-done it on her Rosemary Connolly Dvd whilst carrying out her lunges and squats . I was impressed as most people half her age aren’t doing these exercises – bless her. I sat in awe as I listened to this 82 year old tell me all about her life with excitement and passion.
Hannah turned up the following week and when I went to open the door there was this fabulously wonderful lady standing on my door step shining brightly. She was wearing a bright pink top, white trousers and had a smile that lit up the world. She looked fabulous and looked around 68-70 years, certainly not 82. After we had gone through her health and fitness PAR-Q I told Hannah that she looked amazing for her age and asked her what was she doing to stay so young...
She turned around to me and said this... “ Davinia you teach the secret and know the secret, I am just a testament to it as I have done it myself for so many years” ... She continued, “make sure that you exercise frequently every week.” ( Hannah at 82 swims once a week, does her own gardening, walks every day, takes dance classes once a week and now also works on her strengthening exercises twice a week ) “Make sure that you eat healthily- lots of fruit, vegetables and little sugar and dairy, remember to drink lots of water and most importantly be happy and have a positive mind set.. You teach all this Davinia so keep practicing what you preach.” And she is so very true – to stay physically and mentally young and healthy we must all keep practicing positive thoughts and happiness, we must all love and live life to the full, look after our bodies with exercise, healthy eating and plenty of water and be kind to our bodies and soul.
Hannah is a true inspiration. I just hope that at 82 years old I am like her as she is phenomenal. That night Hannah was off out dancing at 9pm – and whilst i was curled up on the sofa reading I smiled from ear to ear thinking about Hannah the shining star strutting her stuff. Bless her. Thank you Hannah, for being a shining example to this world.
