It Takes Practice!
Tips for being more confident in ANY situation:
- Say your negative self-talk out loud or better yet, write it down. See how ridiculous it sounds or looks.
- Change your negative self-talk into positive self-talk- practice makes perfect. If you tell yourself it’s going to be awful, it will be.
- Tell yourself: “I am confident and wonderful and can do anything” in the right tone- not sarcastic but in a motivating and upbeat tone.
- Pictures in your mind: see yourself having a great time (and ANY event) to ensure that you do.
Exercises:
- Confidence Anchor: get yourself into a confident state by thinking about a time when you felt really confident. Breathe how you would breathe when confident, smile how you smile, move how you move. Then anchor that feeling by clapping and saying something like “I am confident” Repeat this many times and increase the emotionally intensity attached to it. Take a break. After a few moments, clap your hands and repeat “I am confident” and see how you feel.
- Confident self-talk: remember when you were confident. What did you say to yourself? Write it down!
- Clothes for Confidence: go through your closet and get rid of items you don’t feel good in.- sell them on eBay or donate to charity, have outfits at the ready for girls nights out, special events, interviews etc.
- Daily Exercise: take some form of exercise everyday. Your body releases chemical endorphins into your blood stream which instantly make you feel good in yourself.
- Laugh: laugh for 20 min minimum/day. Good for lifting spirits and can improve overall mood and well being-as it also produces endorphins to make body feel good.
- Visualisation: 5min./day. See yourself in detail being incredibly confident. See yourself like this everyday. Be the director of your own movie where you are the star. Make the movie perfect. Feel how it feels. Imagine doing it for real. Store it in the DVD collection in your mind.
